Default allison transmission swap?

well im putting some more power in my truck for now its just a cold air intake less restrictive exhaust and a jet performance stage 2 chip (may possibly doing a throttle body spacer (i got the thing for free so it cant hurt to try) and a 180 thermostat and will be doing headers and dual straight pipe with an X-pipe soon) and eventually porting and polishing the heads with new roller rockers new cam and some cupped pistons with slightly longer rods or a larger crank and although the truck came with the 46rh with the extra power i want a more reliable that has a much higher torque rating which is where the allison falls in. has anyone heard of an allison swap into a 1995 5.9 gas engine truck and if so where?

I'd be inclined to talk to some of the guys that build transmissions for the Cummins trucks. See what handles the tq of a Cummins. Find out what is the weak link of the 46 RH. It may just mean raising the line pressure. The 545RFE'S are pretty stout, but converting the truck to run the TCM could be a nightmare. Your mods aren't very aggressive . Perhaps the guys at SharaDon could give you an idea, or maybe they have a valve body up grade. I just run a Sonnax line pressure booster on my 545RFE and spray a 100 shot on a cammed , modded hemi, probably 425rwhp and have never had an issue. Making an Allison fit and work would be a hell of a challenge.

I have an uncle that had an Allison put behind his 2500 V10 4 wheel drive at Fountain Transmission in Iowa City, Iowa. He has over 200,000 miles on it now with no issues. States he even picked up 2 mpg.

Find a pre-electronic A-518. This is basically a 727 small block trans with an OD unit on the back of it. They're fairly stout stock (and it's a bolt in).

You can build your 46rh to last for cheaper than swapping in an Allison which is not as good as the Chevy camp would lead you to believe.

This is assuming you're talking about a modern Allison. If you're talking about an old one out of a medium duty truck, they are strong but so so so power hungry.

If I remember right, the 46RH is a 518 derivative, maybe with more electronics? I know the later versions you couldn't just wire up a 2 pole switch to engage the OD.
