Default new to me truck. help me figure out what's been done

I picked up a 04 2500 quad cab. It's got 115k miles on it and it's in great shape. I'm trying identify what all has been done to it.

Its got a k&n cai.
It has a BD Diesel autoloc which I could use an explanation of what it does as well as how and when to safely use it.
According to bd it should also have a exhaust brake with it to...how can I determine that?
I tried reading their website but it's over my head at this point

Thanks
Keith

I would use it when towing. It locks your torque converter when the exhaust brake is engaged. There should be a switch for the exhaust brake, and it will engage when you let off the throttle.

Congrats on the purchase, post up some pics.

I've heard nothing but bad about k&n on cummins, I'd do some reading but it might be worth it to ditch that filter for something else or a stock air box..

As NWRQC said the autoloc is to lock up the torque converter. It's safe to use it almost any time... but I probably wouldn't bother using it until at least 3rd or 4th gear. My 2012 doesn't lock up until 4th. It essentially makes the transmission feel/act more like a manual by locking up the engine and transmission just like a clutch would. What you need to be careful of us making sure you turn it off when you come to a stop. Obviously your truck can't run if the torque converter is locked up without the truck moving. It would be like coming to a stop in a manual without pushing the clutch it.

Did you just read through BD's website that if your truck has an autoloc on it that there's an exhaust brake too? That would make sense to me but it isn't necessarily 100% true... I would take a look at your exhaust system to make sure there's actually one there.

If there is and you only have one switch it's quite likely that the switch operates both the exhaust brake and the autoloc. An exhaust brake is useless unless the torque converter is locked up. To test it all you have to do is go out on the road (I would suggest the highway) get up to speed, then flip on that switch and let off the fuel. If you significantly feel the truck slow down and hear a whistling type sound the exhaust brake is engaged.

And yes, I would definitely ditch the K&N filter as well. Not a good filter for a turbo diesel....

The BD tech said there should be an exhaust brake associated with the auto loc. I have found the exhaust brake. I have her the exhaust brake air pump engage when I turn the switch on. However I did not notice a difference with the celebration with or without the switch on. They just sent me a user's manual that I'll be going over and trying to diagnose any problems. They said I could leave the auto lock on at all times if I wanted the exhaust brake function and that it would disengage on its own under 30 miles an hour

Oh okay, well that's a good fool proof set up then. BD Diesel definitely knows what's going on with that stuff so I wouldn't doubt what they say. Leaving it on at all times would make it act almost identical to how the factory exhaust brake works on the 6.7's. You'll love it! For me it's weird to drive a vehicle without an exhaust brake now.

When i drove semi trucks, i never shut off the engine braking system, it was usually a Jacobs unit
I also used it as a training tool, if you hear the brake while up shifting, you are doing something wrong

We had some trucks that used the Blue Ox Exhaust Brakes, that system seemed inefficient to me

now signs are posted in many communities, no exhaust brakes allowed

Funny you say that. I used mine all the time so adjusting to not having one after swapping the turbo out took a little bit. I use my brakes way more now.

how can I test that it's working? I hear the air pump on occasion. I can see the rpms hold but u don't hear the exhaust brake noise I expect. nor do I significantly slow down.
