Default Rain-X on Mirrors...weird effect...

Ok, so I used RainX on my windows and on my mirrors the other day. Yesterday I noticed that the mirrors were... Tinted. It's the best way I can describe it. I thought it was an effect from wearing polarized sun glasses and the auto dimming...
But today, I wasn't wearing my sunglasses and I still noticed the "tint" when I was driving my wife to work.
But here's something even weirder. When I turn the truck off, it goes away.
The mirror heating isn't on, so it's definitely something to do with the auto dimming.
Did I do something bad to the mirrors? It doesn't bother me, in fact it REALLY dims headlights now which is nice. But I am just concerned that the RainX did something to the mirror that is going to do damage or something.

In my experience Rain-X does leave a film. The film catches the light in funny ways. The directions do mention that you want to buff the film away… and even use a damp cloth if needed to get the film all the way off.
I have seen what you are talking about and I don't think you have done any damage.
If you want to try it… get a cloth nice and warm- shoot a little windex or such on the mirrors and buff it dry- it will take off the rain-x but will remove the streaks. You can reapply rain-x with a much much lighter application.

Ok, cool. Like I said, I actually don't mind it... Just concerned I did something because I do not know how auto dimming actually works.

Just in case anyone is really curious what I am witnessing (and to ease anyone fears) here are pics showing what I mean. And it is definitely the auto dimming feature because I turned it off while the truck was still running and the discoloration went away.

With auto-dimming on (mirror looks tinted):

I know that if you use Rain-X on a motorcycle windshield, you will regret it immediately
it should never be used on plastics
