Default 2014 low power

Just traded a 2012 2500 6.7 cummins auto for a 2014 6.7 cummins auto, the 2012 was stock and would run circles around the new one, the new one has less than a 100 miles on it and I realize there is a 10,000 to 20,000 break in period however I have never had a new diesel that had such poor take off. Is this normal for or do I need to take it in for a check up?

There was a test on the web of the 3 diesels I believe it was last year. RAM scored worst in mpg, pickup speed and a few other tests. My 2014 Megacab 2500 is a slug but if I can cruise at 60-65 empty I am hand calculating 19. Mine ran rough and I was disgusted with it but at 4400 miles it seems smoother. Still vibrates but smoother. MUCH worse than the 2011 crew or 2013 mega Laramies I had. But slow pickup, tested worse of the big 3.

Just curious, did both trucks have the same gear ratio? A lower gear ratio can have a big difference on takeoff and acceleration.

I stand corrected ,the 2012 was geared 3:73, the 2014 is 3:42, plus the 2012 had 17" wheels and the 2014 has 20" wheels that beat you to death by the way.

My 2014 2500 Ram (automatic) has 7100 miles on it. Traded a 2008 3500 Ram automatic for it. The 2008 had plenty of power both on take off and if you had to punch it at say 35mph. The 2014 is a real dog. Almost got hit today because someone was moving over on me and instead of braking I punched it...nothing absolutely nothing.
I am also having some transmission issues but it is between 2 and 3 gear so not on takeoff or not on rolling and punching it. So transmission is another story to be resolved hopefully.

Default me too

I understand, my 2014 automatic trans feels like it slips between gears on a light load, dealer said it's normal. But I do like the 20 mpg highway.

Startrec, I also have a 2012 cc 4x4 dully with the 3.73. it gets 11 mpg. just ordered 2500 cc 4x4 but I got the 3.42 and 17" wheels 6 speed trans. All this done before I found this web site. Now I wish I ordered it a little different but all I cared about at that time was getting away from the 11 mpg thing.

Default power

Changed from 20" wheel/tire combo to 18" , mostly to improve the ride but partially to see if the 20 combo was reducing take off power, did not make a hill of beans difference I guess since the 18" tires are only 1/4" shorter than the 20's. So I guess the 3.42 gears is what makes mine feel so much weaker off the line and with a load than my 2012 did.

After a long line of GM 3500's I made the switch to a 2014 Limited 3500 cc long box.

I cant be more happy with my truck. I will say that out of the trucks I test drove, I thought the 3.42 was more responsive and deceiving in speed. When I went to purchase one, I noticed it had 3.73 gears and felt really slow accelerating. I then opted for the one I have and it has 3.42 and with less than 1000 miles on it I am getting 18.5 mpg running 78 mph. My towing mileage is better than the 2013 Dmax as well. I never saw more than 10.5 and getting 11.5-12 hand calculated. So far no complaints.
