Default New to NOS need help?

Hi, ive read almost every thread I can on here and a couple other forums and while ive learned a lot I still have some questions.

the things ive learned are...wet system is safer than dry, nitrous express is a pretty good brand to go with, and I should be able to safely run a 75 shot of N2O on practically stock engine and a completely stock tranny.

I wouldn't want to pay anyone to install and would like to do it myself (yes I know theres still a lot to learn before doing this) but there are a couple questions I have.

heres the link to the kit I was thinking about getting: http://www.nitrousexpress.com/70569/...lb-bottle.html

I know id have to get a bottle heater and all that jazz, my question is I know everybody likes the throttle plate, but if im running only a 50 to 75 shot is it worth it to pay the extra for the plate? also where do you tap into the fuel that goes into the solenoid mixed with nos? and where does the actual spray nozzle mount to get the mixture into the intake?

the videos at the bottom say that it comes with the switch that only allows nos to be sprayed between certain rpm ranges...so would I need the window switch aswell or is that what that is?

sorry for the newbie questions I just want to do it right if I put the money and time into doing it. thanks for anyone who can help me out

I like to have the button to spray mounted handy to my right thumb. If I'm having traction problems, I can blip it until it hooks up. A 10 lb bottle fits nicely under rear seat. Use a heater with auto shut off pressure switch. For a 100 shot, run 1 range colder plug, gapped .35. Run 1 grade higher gas if you can or 1 bottle NOS brand octane booster to half a tank or less gas. Pick up the gas from a Schrader valve in a fuel rail. Just spray a 100 shot at 2800-3000 rpms and wot. Let off the nitrous button as soon as you go thru the traps, but never let off the gas until you let off the nitrous button. If you go the "hot button" route you have instant ability to let off the juice, but you have to treat that button almost like a loaded gun! If you hit the nitrous at anything but wot and over 2800 rpms, you will break your motor. Make sure you have a blow down tube that goes thru the floor, should the system overpressure. Get a Sonnax line pressure booster for your transmission. Spray only at the track, it's illegal to spray on the street!

thank you for your reply. instead of running a "hot button" a lot of people use a switch that mounts and only allowes the nos to be sprayed at those certain rpms you set it for once you flip the switch and "arm" the nos system. do you think that's a safer route for me since im new to it and if I accidentally hit the button at the wrong time?

also I was reading about the colder plugs you were talking about. how much do those run price wise? thanks for your help I appreciate it.

I personally ran a wide open throttle switch and a window switch on one of my GM's. I was running a manual trans at the time and that allowed me to focus on shifting rather than letting on and off a button. I programmed the window switch to shut off 200 below my shift point in addition to the wide open throttle switch that would disengage when i lifted, probably overdone but never worried about anything while running it.

thanks for the input. but does that do anything to help with spinning tires. I feel like if I did that I would spin like crazy. did you set up a purge kit? and did you spray through all your gears?

when at the strip, with better tires and a better prepped surface i would not spin very much at all and yes i went through all gears. On the street since I wouldn't be able to go full throttle right off the line it was manageable since i was at a higher MPH when i was finally able to put it all the way to the floor and activate the wide open throttle switch.

ive been back and forth about either going with the window switch or the hot button and I plan to do the install here in about 6 weeks. I just don't know how hard it is to hook up the tps sensor and window switch to the system. did you put all your in by yourself?

although I use nitrous pretty frequently at the track, I do consider myself still an amateur in regards to nitrous so I pretty much keep it as a safe setup. Altho I am running a plate, I use to run a nozzle tapped into a tb spacer which worked just as good. I run a step colder plug (NGK 4306) which I run all the time. I do make it a habit to change my plugs frequently (every other time I go to track) just for insurance sake. I run the Zex nitrous wet system which has the solenoids in a little black box which makes it simple for me to setup. I do run a wot pedal switch which sprays at a higher rpm (not sure what it is) and will stop when below that rpm or when I'm off the pedal... I use to have the problem of spinning off the line spraying and what I did initially was feather off the line before nailing it but then I lost potential e.t.'s because of the slow start. To offset that I got a cig lighter power switch to run my nitrous off of. What this did was make my setup 'portable' which I could hide the power when not in use, but more importantly, it gave me a switch I could flip once I leave the line on wot na for 60 ft or so and then flippin the switch which is like pushing the button...and for safety sake, it allows me to turn off the system after I pass the traps so I don't inadvertently light up if I blip the throttle afterwards.
