Can't give you any advice other than I hope to hell that you are in very good shape before you take up snowboarding. Having good dexterity, endurance and flexbility definitely help.

I've been snowboarding up at Whistler Blackcomb Mountain in British Columbia, where they are having the 2010 Olympics in a month. It's a world class mountain with several black diamond runs, and currently has the tallest/highest gondola in the world. Great place but it gets very "touristy" and very busy. Still a great place to go snowboarding. Be sure you have a professional adjust the bindings and get the correct size/type of board for you.

Ah, what would we Canadians do without our winter sports?

I've tried snowboarding once myself. Be prepared to fall. Also, try not to wear jeans, get some snow pants, or you'll have soaked pants halfway through the day. Watch out for little kids, nobody likes you when you mow a toddler over.

Never tried snowboarding, always wanted to. Used to love skateboarding when I was younger, but the challenge for me now would be keeping my feet underneath me haha! Good luck, have fun and looking forward to the pics!!!

You can get some quality snowboards for less than that. If you go to a pro shop you'll pay about that, but you can find good deals online for a whole setup (board, bindings, boots). I have a Burton (great name) board and bindings for $250 on eBay, and i've ridden it for 4-5 seasons now, only upgraded the bindings once to a better set.

As far as advice goes; to turn, put pressure on your front foot and swivel your back foot. turning your head to where you want to go is a good tip as well. Also keep in mind that it is nothing like skiing. You can't go very slow snowboarding or you'll fall down. Just like riding a bike, the faster you go the more stable you are. Don't go too fast but if you keep falling down, try and go a little faster. And if you are going to fall, fall on your back, not on your front, it hurts less. And have a lot of fun, I love snowboarding, its a blast.
