i like my 4x4 with electronic hubs, easier to shift in and out of 4x4 when needed this winter. my bare bones jeep has manual windows and such. less to go wrong.

It's been done on 2 wheel drive trucks, but i haven't heard of anybody doing it on a 4X4 yet.
I'd love a 6speed manual too, they used to do it on the SRT's,why not now

not enough people want a manual anymore to make it worthwhile to offer.

funny thing is, a manual used to be called a standard, because it was the standard.
you had to pay extra if you wanted an automatic, now you can't even get the manual.
I for one am sick of things being done for me, I like manual trans manual hubs manual windows, and certainly a manual transfer case shift. if you've ever been stuck without your four-wheel-drive when it was needed because of electronic failure you would know what I mean.
How do you like parallel parking with your standard steering and standard transmisision?

I once felt the same way. I special ordered my "standard" truck in 1976 and got standard steering, standard 3-speed on the column, standard brakes (THAT almost killed the deal...Ford had a conniption-fit...but finally agreed to do it)... manual windows ...AND.... (are you ready?)... an 8-Track tape player/AM/FM radio!

I got rid of that truck 3 month's later because it took that long to find another idiot who thought like I used to think.

SOME modern things are GOOD.

(one of the things I was thinking was.... it'd be easier to fix stuff if it was manual 'cause I keep vehicles f o r e v e r . ...but the sad fact is... no one else has those things and no parts are therefore available for the one-off vehicle.)

No. It was the last year for the 360 V-8.

It was hard to park. It was hard to steer. It was IMPOSSIBLE to parallel park.
It was hard to shift while eating or smoking or drinking.
It was hard to enjoy a drive, especially when pulling a trailer. It was hard to drive thru the bank window and do business because full hands didn't like to shift, stop, ROLL down the window... It was hard to drive on a TOLL road and toss coins out the manual window... It was no fun dating in it.
There was NOTHING of virtue about that all-manual truck.

That's not an apples to apples comparison.
Ask your Ram dealer what trannys are available with H.D. towing packages and why.
Automatic transmissions are not common in big rigs, in fact the Auto's in them are electronically shifted standards. They have no torque converter
However, that said, I agree big rigs and 1500's are two different animals.

Volvo, Freightliner, Eaton... the list goes ON of the big rigs which use automatic transmissions...the difference is that they are "selectable" ...or manual-selectric-overriding... In other words, the operator may override automatic action and manually select shifts... but they are automatic in that the clutch and gear mesh is automatic....not much difference, in practice, than using the + or - button in your RAM.

Read my post.
They are the same eaton trans as the gear jammer a use. Just electronically shifted
It's still a gear on gear trans, not steels and frictions
