Default Ram Security, my rant

When i bought my truck I asked the person assigned to me in the service department about the alarm systems function(s)
He told me that it was the standard Chrysler alarm that it was a good alarm,

well I have been a chevy truck guy since 1971 - 2009, i have been running an after market alarm most of that time, if a child were to fall into it, the alarm went off, if anything short of shorting out the battery, before trying to enter it, it set off the alarm

to be truthful I didn't trust the service depts. answer, it told me nothing.
i then went across the street where a sub contractor installs the Border Patrol equipment for Chrysler. I was told that not only did i have the system that is normally installed at the factory, but, that he had installed a backup ? system, & that there are 2 types, blue or green light systems. the Chrysler system lets anyone steal the vehicle & drive it some distance away before shutting down, apparently the computer doesn't sense the electronic key & shuts the truck down. the 2nd system is more for the anti theft & costs $800 ??, I was also told that because i had remote start that i was very limited in types of more secure alarm systems, such as VIPER & other better & much cheaper systems & if i bought a better & cheaper after market alarm system, that i would lose the remote start function.

well thats my rant, does anyone have different information? or suggestions[IMG][/IMG]

Without the WIN module receiving a signal from the FOBIK, the PCM will not engage the starter or enable the fuel and ignition systems on your truck. Older model trucks that use the WCM system will start and run for 2 seconds before the PCM shuts it down. Tell him to see if he can steal your truck with you standing there to see how he bypasses the system that allegedly lets you drive away without the key.

Heh heh, that'll work!

Or how about 115 Volts AC? (I've always liked overkill, no pun intended)

At first I was confused since "better" and "cheaper" don't go together. But I guess he was saying to you that you can get a better aftermarket alarm that's cheaper than the chrysler?

While in his opinion, he may be right because maybe with a viper alarm you get proximity sensors or window break sensors, the last thing I want is someone cutting wires in my harness. The way I see it, if someone wants to take your truck and they're good enough, they will take it no matter what you do to it. Unless of course you electrify the car which is not very realistic at all because you'll fry little Timmy down the street.

And plus, your truck is kinda unique with that big "WIDE LOAD" sign and rotating orange lights. Kind of hard to miss!

On another not, that guy in the video said something interesting about the way that the airbags go off and door locks unlock. But his armored truck locks you in so the bad guys can't get you out. Well, I wonder if someone crashes in that thing and the person is unconscious how the heck are the firefighters/paramedics/police going to pull the person out??? That thing is armored and has bullet proof glass.

That video's awesome!

Actually it wouldn't be too difficult to take the workings of an otherwise legal stun gun and mount the probes on the door handles. I wonder if that would be illegal or would it be in one of those "gray areas" of the law. Sure would make a car jacker think twice!

LOL, electrified exteriors are illegal in the usa

Chrysler alarms don't go off if the window is busted out, the thief can then get in & remove anything that will fit through the window, the 2nd alarm in the system does have a sensitivity setting, mine is set at 50%, but, it never went off when someone opened their door into my front door passenger side, it was not a preferred mod

what i meant by better & cheaper was better product for less money
i little more research today showed me this, i don't know if its compatible with my vehicle though

That's a sweet truck! If I were you I'd protect it with my life. Love the look of the 2009+ Rams.
