Default 99 ram misfiring

New to the forum and hoping to get some advice on my 5.2 L. Bought this truck a couple months ago and haven't had to many problems with it besides a leaking water pump and ex manifolds which I've replaced. Until recently it's started misfiring but only when driving it sounds good just idling but when I drive it especially in a higher gear at lowing rpms or on an uphill it has quick jerks like very short lapses of power. At first I thought it was a clutch issue but I believe it's in the engine, I also had some sputtering at one point while driving. I put new Bosch copper plugs in it yesterday (fairly cheap plugs) and this did not seem to help much or any. Should I go ahead and replace wires next or was going with cheap plugs a bad idea. It did throw a misfire in the second cyl code but it's not throwing it everytime I drive it only certain times. appreciate any input thanks for reading.

Wires may be a good next step. Before you do that, check them at night to see if they have any spots where they can be arcing. Check the nipples where they plug onto the dist cap for corrosion. If it sits for short spells, check to make sure that no intruders got up/under the hood and decided it was a nice place to take a lunch break.

I'd also add some fuel injector cleaner. #2 should be the front wire on the driver's side. Trace it well and look for white powdery spots.

Possible fuel pressure issue, maybe ckps, or a clogged cat. Some of these will idle well, but crap at load. A mis-fire at the #2 cyl may be ignition, but probably fuel-delivery. Please check fuel pressure before spending any more $.

I agree. Mis-fire is more accurately described as mis-detonation. It's not always necessarily the plug and/or wire. A bad injector can supply an inadequate fuel spray/supply and result in mis-detonation.

(Think of it as a butane lighter and a can of starting fluid. The butane lighter being the spark-plug, and the starting fluid being the fuel supply. No butane lighter...no fireball. No starting fluid...no fireball. Need to have them both working properly.)

I was just waiting to see if the OP got back with the results of the wire check before proceeding.

Agreed, a basic tune up will solve many problems. However, the dreaded leaking plenum gasket looms on the horizon.

I'm surprised by the the plenum thing! With a gazillion miles on my private, and work Rams, and co-workers, and friends, I have never ran into the plenum issue! It sounds like a big thing here, but I have just never seen, or heard of it. Just lucky?
