Default Starting

Hi, recently I have been having an intermittent issue with my truck starting. It doesn't happen very often, mostly after work when it has been sitting for about 11 hrs.
The issue is that it turns over but won't start right away. sometimes it takes one extended crank, sometimes 3 or 4 cranks. Someone has suggested it might be a sensor, another person suggested the starter. Anyone have any suggestions on Isolating a specific component? Again, it's not a consistent issue so troubleshooting without the actual symptoms being present would be easiest as it is not very predictable.

All input is appreciated.

If it is cranking strong, but not starting, it's not the starter. When is the last time you did a tune up? Sometimes a new cap, rotor, plugs and wires can make a world of difference both in starting and running well.

My truck got gradually worse starting, especially if there was any moisture in the air. After I replaced the above list of parts it started and ran like new. And it's simple to do yourself.

I'm with sxipro, basic tune-up would be the way to go as a starting point. Also, have you run a scan on the computer? If you have an intermittent sensor issue, it may not be enough to trigger the check engine light, but it could show up as a pending code in the computer.
