Default Air Intake

I was browsing and came upon this. I have a 14 and was wondering if it was any good. Anyone have any experience with them or products?

I just put a K&N blackhawk CAI on my 13 Sport with 5.7Hemi and it definitely makes a difference in the sound of the engine and performance as well. It sounds more throaty and seems to have a little better acceleration at launch. I also put a Flowmaster Delta flow 70 series muffler on as well, and it gave my 13 a better tone. Just bove the stock muffler, very nice sound, but not annoying in the cab. The two modifications together have definitely enhanced the trucks overall performance. The CAI was dyno tested to give an additional 10+ HP, and Flowmaster claims the muffler will add at least another 5% HP increase. That adds up to 35 more ponies under the hood, and I know my fuel mileage is slightly better, when I keep my foot out of it. It definitely made a noticeable difference. Hope this helps you make up your mind.Best of luck.

Don't bother with a CAI on the cummins, one of the biggest wastes of money on a turbocharged engine. The turbocharger will instantly increase your temps by at least 150deg, so the 5-6deg decrease from a CAI will not affect the engine AT ALL.

I agree. The 6.7's airbox is a great design. All an aftermarket intake will do is give you a little more intake noise. If you think it looks cool, go for it. But if you only want a small boost in performance and sound, just do the Home Depot mod to your OEM intake.

As mentioned above, it's not a performance mod on the Cummins, until you swap turbos and can use the additional airflow.
The factory set-up is very efficient and you won't see any increase in power or fuel economy be replacing it with an aftermarket set-up.

Most people agree that running an oiled air filter on a Cummins is a horrible idea.

Both these posts are spot on. An aftermarket intake won't give you any more power unless you're running upwards of 600 HP. All you get from it are better looks and a little more turbo whistle.

I recently modified mine. I just removed the airbox and drilled 8 two inch holes in the bottom with a hole saw. All the benefits of an aftermarket intake for free.

That should also make better use of the entire filter surface. I know on my truck half of the filter closer to the opening had 90% of the dirt, the other end looked barely dirty.
