Default I've got issues!

Sitting on the side of the highway as I write this...was cruising at highway speeds on my way to pick up my L&M transmission, edge torque converter and jba long tube headers when the engine started to run very rough and a very loud ticking/knocking started coming from my drivers side valve cover area. Waiting for a tow truck at the moment but anybody have any suggestions other than broken valve spring/lifter or connecting rod? Engine hasn't thrown any codes but will not run :s

I don't think it's a lifter, mine had a lifter go out which killed the cam, it still ran fine, just tapped loudly at idle. Hope once you remove the valve cover the answer will be obvious and an easy fix. I think a broken valve or dropped valve seat would be more catastrophic. Fingers crossed, it's not expensive.

broke a valve spring, dropped a valve an killed a piston...just a guess though... lets just hope the valve just got slapped around...I've had 2 buddys with the same sound with totally different outcomes... first one was what I described, the 2nd one actually broke 3 valve springs at the same time but luckily didnt drop any valves, so all we did was pull the heads and replaced the valve springs....

the one that only broke a spring..

a few guys in the club went over to his house and we swapped his springs out...

easiest way to check is pull a valve cover and check..

We'll looks like its a bent valve and snapped piston ring. I've got a couple different options now, I talked to HHP today about stroking it out, wouldn't be cheap but it is VERY tempting. Or I could get the engine done locally, I'm booked at a local shop next week. I could get them to do bare minimum, go back to stock, sell my L&M trans back to Mike and hang my head in shame. Anybody care to chime I'm all ears...

I say stroke it!! if you are willing to spend the money that is.. how much cheaper would the local shop be to do the motor work, and how capable are you at assembling yourself? It would definitely be well worth it IMHO

save the money. Build it back right, but mill the heads, thinner head gasket, bump compression, and bump the cam up some. Port the heads while they are off. And for pete's sake - spend the money on the valve locks. Sorry to hear about it friend.
