Default Horrible track times yesterday :-(

Took my truck to the track for Saturday morning test and tune. It wasn't that busy but I only got in 3 runs. They broke us into 4 groups, and then had 4 lanes, 1&2 for street tires and 3&4 for slicks. They didn't seem to be enforcing it very strictly though as I saw a bunch of cars on slicks in lanes 1 and 2. Every time I got up to the front, I got paired with someone from lane 3 which was mostly caged big block drag cars. I don't know why the fat guy directing the cars wouldn't put me next to other street cars but it was actually pissing me off because there was a GMC Sierra I wanted to race as well as a 99-04 Mustang GT and some Civic's that would have been better matches for me than the big block 70 Camaro that I kept getting paired with.

First run was against the Camaro. He ran in the 11's. My truck pulled a 2.460 60 foot, and ran 15.892@88.55mph. Never got it out of 2nd gear. I was surprised because I usually cross in 3rd but I was at near 6000 rpm in 2nd when I crossed.

2nd run I pulled a 2.454 60 foot, and ran 15.722@90.25mph. I got into 3rd gear and it pulled 2 more mph on the trap speed.

3rd run was a 2.429 60 foot and another 15.702@90.09mph. The 2nd and 3rd run I tried to stall the truck up against the brakes before launching but it didn't help much at all on the 60 foot times. I usually just mash the gas from idle on the 3rd yellow light.

Well that sucked. It was 86 degrees and we are 4226 ft above sea level.

I ran here a few weeks ago and ran a couple of 15.1@94mph runs and a 15.2@93mph. I was actually impressed with that time because most cars are .5-.7 slower up here at this track.

I just ran a DA correction, and it says my 15.7@90mph should be:
Stock and Mildly Modified Naturally Aspirated Engines
14.278 @ 98.717 MPH

or

Extensively Modified Naturally Aspirated Engines
14.58 @ 96.549 MPH

The density altitude correction says 7197 ft. Wow!

I usually run closer to the extensively modified N/A corrected times even though my truck is mostly stock. I did pull the spare and tailgate.

My coolant temps were hovering at 203 degrees. I popped the hood between runs to cool it down but by the time I'd get through staging (turning it off each time I pulled forward) and up to the line I was back around 197-203 again.

It was hot but not humid. The truck was basically a turd below 4000 rpm. It wasn't pulling like it normally does off the line. I never new the heat would affect my truck like this.

Are there any tricks I can do like put a resistor in the air charge temp sensor to fool the computer that its cooler outside to richen the mixture? Would a 180 degree t-stat help keep the coolant temps lower. I get nervous when my temp gets over 200 degrees. My GMC never gets over 185 degrees. I have a 180 t-stat and electric fan on that truck.

I found the slips from the last time I ran at Rocky Mountain Raceways in the evening. The temps were 63 degrees.

1: 2.347 60 ft. and 15.721@91.92mph

2: 2.399 60 ft. and 15.241@93.99mph

3: 2.382 60 ft. and 15.106@94.67mph

4: 2.375 60 ft. and 15.152@94.17mph

Guess the 20 degree cooler air helps a ton.

Corrected the 15.106 time:

Stock and Mildly Modified Naturally Aspirated Engines
14.161 @ 100.946 MPH

Extensively Modified Naturally Aspirated Engines
14.385 @ 99.286 MPH

I would be happy with a 14.3@99mph out of my truck.

Didn't realize until yesterday that heat affects naturally aspirated engines as bad. I have had supercharged and twin turbo cars before but never raced any of my N/A vehicles other than the Hemi. Apparently the Hemi likes it cold just like the forced induction cars do.

Yea man, in the summer and at high altitude tracks all i pay attention to is the da corrected times. Cause your truck is a low to mid 14 second truck all day. Just 3000 da takes my 1/8 mile times from 8.40's up to around a 8.70-8.80. And 1/4 mile times from 13.2 or 13.3 up to 13.7 or 13.8. You need to get back to a low altitude track man!!! I know that shit will make you feel bad about your truck but it's just the air your running in. My da corrected times Have always been spot on so trust the calculator buddy, it's always work for me

I moved out here to move in with my girlfriend. I love racing but I miss the low altitude tracks I used to race at.
