I personally have wanted a light duty diesel truck ever since I drove a Toyota Helix on Vacation; and 28mpg would be great.

I'm not familiar with the 2.7 crd. Were they a nightmare?

if you check some grand cherokee and liberty forums you can read and decided for yourself. for me. longevity, durability, simplicity and mpg are the reasons for a diesel. something like the old 5.9 cummins. seems those days are over.

I have a 2.8 built by VM right now. It is good. Not as good as my old cummins but what can I expect. Fuel mileage is decent, you can program them. The only thing is, it is noisy. With a few mods it is alright.

Just because VM is building the new 3.0l doesn't make it bad. Dodge, Ford & GM have all built some garbage & built some good stuff. VM has built alot of things & been in bed with some major players. If this engine is a failure it will be a huge kick for Ram. With the competitive edge right now I am sure that Fiat wants to avoid that like the plague.

With the high demand.... it would only make sense that we would out order the supply right now, since the engines and tranies are coming from over seas.
The transmissions and converters are built here in the USA! I work in the plant that builds the converters and we ship them to the Kokomo Transmission Plants, ITP-1 and ITP-2. None of our transmissions are built overseas.

We had diesel in are deep vain coal mine. They were in Isuzu pickups that we drove to the working units. They took a beating and keep on ticking they were inline. I do not rember who was the maker of the engine.

They were almost definitely Isuzu diesels.

The transmission for the EcoDiesel IS built in Germany still as it is a ZF (8HP70) unit not the Chrysler US-sourced build of the ZF 8HP45 (845RE) for the Pentastar trucks. Just check the build sheets, window stickers and reports from Chrysler about their parts sources.
