Like I said I am mostly looking for better MPGs and keeping the inside of my engine clean. Once I have it installed I'll have to see how loud it is with only the small OEM muffler. Unlike most of you I do not like loud trucks (to old for that) and may install another muffler to keep things near OEM levels.

Right now my truck gets 19 MPG (not hand calculated), mostly highway.
Nice, that will definitely get the delete job done.

The "muffler" you see in your stock exhaust is actually just a resonator. The cats and DPF filter do all the muffling on the stock exhaust. So if you don't want it too loud you'll probably want to add in a real muffler somewhere in the system.

Yes, that is what I figured; the stock "muffler" is really small. I been looking on line and Flowmaster makes a Hushpower muffler that will probably fit the bill. The other alternative would be a stock muffler for a 5.9L (06/07), probably would cost more and the inlet/outlet is offset.

Welcome back to the Cummins side I did the DPF delete only my truck is only slightly louder than stock. Hang on to your factory muffler as you may want to get a shop to install it back for you. Also, a little extra sound deadening in the cab can work wonders too

Don't surprised if the tuner you get from Rudy's is a RaceME instead of a Smarty. Several guys have ordered through their Ebay store and that was what was delivered. As far as I can tell Smarty stopped making tuners after the EPA crackdown. Functionally the Smarty Jr and RaceME are just about (if not completely) identical. I have had mine for about 9 months and have been very happy with the performance, especially for the price. The instructions are easy to follow but if you have any questions I will help any way that I can. Best of luck!

The stock muffler stays in place, I am just putting a new pipe from the turbo on down back to the muffler, I will see how loud it is. If it bothers me I probably get a Flo-Pro 30" Heavy Duty muffler. It has baffles and is their quietest version.

What setting do you run the tuner on? Did you see any improvement in MPGs?

Ah, missed that.
I had been running SW2 though the winter as it took away some engine 'pinging' caused by our winter fuel blend. Now that camper season is here I am back to SW0. SW2 was too hard on the transmission when pulling the camper.

There was a definite increase in MPGs after deleting. I averaged 9 towing our TT, 13 around town and 16 on the highway stock. Now getting 11 with the TT, 16-17 around town and 20-21 on the highway consistently. MPGs seem to be a little better on SW2 (maybe a 1/2 MPG) as was the throttle response but at the expense of the trans. I will be moving up to SW1 once our camper trips are behind us.

That is quite an increase, hopefully I will have similar results.

As far as noise goes, what kind of exhaust do you have? Did you just delete the DPF or did you get another down pipe as well (deleting the cat and NOX filter)? Do run just the stock muffler, aftermarket, or straight pipe all the way.

My truck is a Laramie so I think it has additional sound deadening mats from the factory; right now all I can hear is a little engine noise (diesel clatter), no exhaust noise, and I can barely hear the exhaust brake. I like it that way and will add mufflers if I have to. I got my loud days out of my system a long time ago.

You will love the mileage gains after you delete and tune. I did just the DPF/NOx delete. I still have the factory downpipe & cat and muffler. primarily because I wanted an easy way back to stock and I also read that the cat helped keep some of the smell down. It changed the sound a little but not really louder until I really get into it. My last truck an '09 HEMI 1500 with a 18" Magnaflo muffler and it was louder than this truck is now.

Mine is a BigHorn and even though it was quiet, I was surprised how little sound deadening was in the truck. I added some to the back wall and under the rear seats and now I have to roll the windows down to hear any exhaust at all..

Had a busy (and expensive) long weekend getting my truck closer to the way I want it.

Friday: completed the delete and changed oil
Saturday: one more (cheap) oil change
Sunday: installed a used RER NAV radio (out of a VW van)
Monday: had a set of Nitto Dura Grappler LT285/70-17 installed

That tire size should have been in there from the factory....it just looks right. And thank to the RaceMe it took no time to recalibrate the speedometer.

Next on the list is an EGT gauge (Autometer has matching gauges for 4th Gen trucks), Mopar bed mat, and a Truxedo Low Pro QT.

It is raining here or I would have posted some pictures.

Check out ISSPRO factory match gauges. The install of them is easier and I've heard of more people having problems with Autometer than ISSPRO.
