Last night I preloaded the radiator with fluid and then dropped the pan and put fresh fluid in it. She took the standard 5 pints (in addition to the preload).

I started it up, let it run in Neutral for 5 minutes to get warm and checked the fluid. it appears to be a little above the top line (but not too much). I am still getting ZERO movement of the tranny, i think the pump is dead.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me ( a known good trans).
A piece of linkage above the valve body had come loose.

Keven, were you able to fix it or did you have to rebuild it? (when you say piece, that could mean many things)

The trans shop found it. I was going to rebuild the trans.
For some reason they dropped the valve body before
removing the trans and spotted the problem.

WOW, that's awesome. I just came in from the shop and I have started removing the entire transmission. I will stop what I am doing (only doing linkages and tails haft so far), and I will look into this valve body to see if it might possibly be the issue. Thanks

I don't know much about A999, but oh boy am I learning.

I checked the Valve body and it seemed to be hooked up right because she's shifting thru the gears, I have Park (with a clunk as it locks in), and I have R (won't start), then I have N, i know that because the engine starts, then it moves to D, 2 and 1 (won't start in those gears either - BY DESIGN). So I am convinced that the linkage inside is working just as it should.

I started to look very closely at the transmission cooler pump because I believe that is my problem. I don't know how hard it is to pull one of these off and where I might buy a new one but it seems to be a pretty difficult job. Do you guys have any pointers or write-ups on how to do this?

The tranny is out of the truck again and i'm just trying to find out what my next step is.

Does anybody here have an A999 for sale in the SouthEast? (East Tennessee) I am probably going to return this one and get my money back before the 30 days are up and then i'll be looking to start over with another used unit.

I can't send him a PM until I have 25 posts and I only have 15... shish.. A little admin help please?

--------------

Dear TransEngineer,
I was referred to you from a poster in the 1st gen forums. http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=176567 where I am working on a 1989 Dodge D150 pickup transmission. I've been struggling after putting in a nice used (and guaranteed unit) but apparently the pump is bad, now I have that unit removed and I am considering if I can send just the pump out for rebuild or if i could buy a reman pump from somebody.

Anyway, i'm an experienced car guy, but mostly with Chevies and Ford -- this is my first Dodge experience and I really like the truck, just need to get fluid flowing..

If you have any thoughts, or any parts that you would be willing to sell me for this 904/998/999 I would appreciate the help, i'm a bit stuck now.

We have decided to give up on this project. We keep finding 83-92 Dodge trucks for sale who need transmissions, it seems that Dodge didn't really build that Tranny as well as they needed. We've spent far too many hours on this without getting the right unit in there and running.

So, does anybody need a parts truck?? The engine runs SMOOTH and the body is solid and rust free. MAKE ME AN OFFER. Located in East Tennessee.
