Default Great gas mileage with 3.92's a 8 speed trans

Just thought I would share some real world numbers.

Texas to Tennessee, all through the Smokie Mountains, through Mississippi and back to good ole' Texas. 6 days 2357 miles. Averaged 19 mpg for the whole trip. Fully loaded crew cab sport 4WD. Bed loaded down and four people inside. The computer said 19.6 mpg but pen and paper said 19.0 mpg.

Stock wheels and tires, 3.92's, Hemi, 8 speed tranny, 4WD. Driving 72-77 mph on hwy.

Hard to beat that for sure. I have only run a couple jaunts of about 35 miles one way but was able to muster up 23-24 but that is with a 2wd and 3.21's. I run about 1300 RPM's at 65 if I remember correctly. I also only have 250 miles or so on it so should do nothing but improve. I also have a Vararam intake which may help a tad.

I don't have any long trips yet but my first two tanks with about 70% town/50% highway yielded around 16.3

I posted because I read some posts about not needing the 3.92's unless you plan on towing a lot. I got the 3.92's because I plan on going with a larger tire later and the fact that with the stock tires it really feels strong. My 09 2wd CC had 3.55's. With the 3.92's and 8 speed this 4wd CC feels so much stronger and still gets better fuel mileage than my 09.

If you keep it around 65-68MPH you will have no problem beating 20MPG. Over 70 and the aerodynamics start sucking the mileage away. I milked 23.5 out of Thunderhorse on a trip from San Antonio to Oklahoma City once. I'm pretty sure I had a tailwind, and I didn't make any stops and stayed at 65MPH most of the way.

That's pretty consistent with what I've seen with my truck.. If I catch a strong headwind it will drop down to 18 mpg, which is still decent for interstate speeds.

It really shines on highway drives going 55-65. It's nothing to see 23-24 mpg at those speeds.

Same thing with towing.. I pull a 12' trailer with a polaris ranger crew. Going 65 you hardly notice it's back there. Past 75 mph and the aero of the rig really kills fuel economy and it's more noticeable the truck is feeling a little stress.

We just drove the GF's '!4 Sport with 3.92 gears & 8-speed from Glacier Park MT to SoCal; 1,285 miles and averaged 19.2 MPG - lots of 85-88 mph through Utah and at least 75 through MT & ID.

Can't complain with that mileage in a full size truck without the eco diesel. I've run 21.5 mpg at 70-75 mph on a trip to CT and back in a 2wd QC hemi with 8 spd and one passenger, so 19mpg in a loaded CC 4x4 sounds pretty good, especially with 3.92's.

I just got my 2014 Ram Laramie 4x4 (5.7L HEMI/crew cab) friday... same tranny/8 speed. I left Woodland Park for Denver this morning which is about 90 miles. I got nearly 25 MPG the way here, that's with free roads, and cruise all the way (72 mph), except going down the pass, which is about 16 miles all downhill. I cant wait to see what the average is for the whole trip... I imagine that uphill on the later part of the way back, and a bit more traffic will kill the mpg somewhat

I love my new truck! I don't miss my 2011 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited one bit!

Edit: After return trip, i was at 19.8 MPG. Total trip was 176 miles or so with an elevation difference of at least 3000 feet.
