Default Trailer Breaking Messages

Just bought a 5th Wheel (~16K lbs) and when I pulled it home I kept getting error messages on EVIC. One was "Check Trailer Wiring" and the other was "Trailer Brakes Not Connected". I have unplugged, replugged, turned off, restarted? We had fifth wheel hitch installed after arket and had plug moved to bed of truck as well.

Try squirting some electrical contact cleaner in the connections and maybe massaging with a pipe cleaner or something similar.

I had a similar message. It turned out to be a frayed wire in one of the trailer brakes.

Just had the same message pop up in my truck - but only when headlights are on.

Everything is dandy with all lights on truck and trailer until I turn on my headlights...then lights on truck are still fine but no trailer lights and brake controller message.

Ideas?

Would be willing to be there is a short in the wiring. Check inside the plug from truck to trailer and junction box on trailer. Tracking them down sucks. Good Luck.

Every camper I have owned when I have Electrical issues has always been in the following three places. !.The Plug in Connector worn out or Frayed or rusted in side. (Harley Davidson makes a Gel for Electrical connections of the ECM under the seat that takes much water at times and cures all connection from rust Etc Etc.) If its not the Connector Plug or Female Connector.... 2. Follow your Trailer wire back about 5 to 10 feet where the Plastic Connectors that connect the trailer wiring to the Connector Plug Wiring and you will find water damage INSIDE the connectors looking Perfect from the Outside Inspection! If none of the above has Issues 3. Go to the Trailer rear tail lights and look inside from where water got in the "sealed" Cover and trashed the Plastic connectors inside the housing causing it to short out. Hope that saves you much time and Expense.

Fixed...indeed a ground wire had pulled out of its connector in the wiring box at the front of the trailer. Would have been a 5 minute fix except I was out of the right size of crimp connector and had to go buy some.

Thanks for the tips!
