Default Pentastar towing test.

Grade: A+

I recently rented a bobcat MT55, trencher, post hole auger, 15 inch bit, and the a bucket for a job I had on the go.

This is the heaviest load I've towed with the star so far. The mt55 is around 3000, the trencher, auger, bit, extensions would be about another 1000, and the 2k the trailer weighs.

I picked the equipment up with my hemi truck, and noticed a low tire. When I stopped to put air in the threads of the valve came with the cap just leaving the stem sticking out. I miraculously was able to get some air in, but the stem started to bend so I left it at that. It was still noticeably low, however I could not get a guage reading because of its state of disrepair. I decided to take it easy for the 50 mile journey from rental shop to job site, and made it without incident. Did the job, made it home no problem.

Ok next morning I had to return the bobcat, my wife decided she wanted to come with me and get some grocery shopping done, so we loaded up the pentastar with the kids, the trailer with the equipment, and the offending tire off my hemi truck. Figured I'd drop it off for a new valve while I was out and about. Anyway now to business.

From my house to the trans canada hi way is 5 miles, the road is shitty, and kicks you side to side a lot so I kept the speed to 90 km/h. Also gives the transmission a chance to warm up.
I turn on to the TC and kick the boots to it, the star revved up and gained speed easily until I let off at 110km/hr. There was still lots of pedal left. I kept it at 110 for a bit, then slowed to 105 and set the cruise. Instant fuel readout stayed on 14l/100kms pretty much the whole time except for over passes. It would keep speed at the overpasses. I wish there were some hills to make her sweat but if anyone is familiar with Winnipeg-portage la prairie area, an overpass is as hilly as it gets.

Honestly I thought there would be enough weight and wind resistance to slow it down a bit but it wasn't. I know there is a point that will come where the star will suckhole with a trailer, however it will not be on weight. On weight alone I was probably close to if not slightly over the trucks capacity. I will need to find something more brick shaped to make the star sweat.

Anyways, this truck keeps impressing me every time I put it to the test.
Never underestimate the star.

Edit: tow/haul mode was engaged

heh, I know it's not even close, but I made a couple local trips with approx 2 yards of bark mulch. My only concern was the load limit on the P-series tires. Truck handled the load like a champ. Zero regrets with the star...
