I second that. I did my first oil change at 1000Km and I plan on doing my second at 5000Km/3000Mi. Then continue every 5000 if the light comes on or not.

Never understand why people want to push the oil so far. I mean come on it's the life blood of your engine why not keep it clean. I bet most spend more on beer in a month than what it costs to change the oil. Every 3000 to 3500 max for me.

My truck wants the oil change NOW!, and is only 5500 km. It al started when it was 4500 km and I said "WTF??? there's no way I'm gonna do the oil change now, I mean it still looks in good shape, so it is gonna last 'til 10000 km

Actually you are right about the beer (in almost every case), but trust me, nowadays almost any oil is designed to last that long or more. It all depends on the operating coditions of the vehicle, so if you have a really heavy foot, and you always drive with extreme heavy payloads it is obvious that the oil is going to lose its properties sooner than if you drive only highway with no payload.

Regards!

i have a black 2010, my first oilchange light came on at 4500kms, and now its on again at 9000kms. My truck is driven by my wife daily, never tows, cool spring temperatures and very little idle time.
seems fairly often, especially for synthetic oil.
Since I change my own oil i think Im going to change to 10 000km intervals.

Remember it has no idea what oil is in your truck. It bases the oil changes on regular oil. There are so many different things it takes into account when turning the oil change light on. What you may think is easy on a motor may be the hardest thing yet. The computer has limitless posibilities it can monitor to judge oil cotamination. And again it has no idea you use synthetic so the oil change light is useless to you, you will have to set your own oil change intervals.

Does anyone know if the computer does any sort of viscosity break down check on the oil before turning on the light?

I'm planning on my 1st oil change shortly (pretty much when I can find the time to do it) with about 1300 miles on it. I'm probably over reacting, but I usually try to get the factory oil out at around 1000-1500 miles, then change it every 5K. I'll be using some sort of synthetic, probably either Castrol or Royal Purple, (haven't found the Amisol in my area).

It can tell what viscosity the oil is by useing the oil pressure switch and the oil temperature sensor. It is a inacurate reading that is mainly used to tell if a person put the wrong oil in the truck since viscosity is extremely important with the MDS system. But they don't use viscosity in the oil change calculation.
