Question Btw - rear diff cover bolts torque specs?

Also since the search turned up this thread for "rear diff cover", I believe the correct torque spec is 30 ft-lbs for the cover bolts - my manuals are not handy - can anyone confirm this?

Also when using both a gasket along with permatex gasket/sealant, how long do you need to let it sit before tightening to torque spec and refilling? Says it sets in an hour but that seems really optimistic based on how fluid it is after 1 hour.

Thanks in advance. I couldn't find common bolt torque specs anywhere on the forum here

That's what I did mine to, but I can't find it written down anywhere - even in my chilton's book....I saw a write up a fella did somewhere - that's where i got 30

I didn't know this and put mine back on immediately with no issues other than a little more squishing from between the cover and truck. I know that was okay as I made a dumb mistake and put the wrong fluid in (in the original post) and actually drained it last night , re-sealed it the same way and filled 'er up w/ mobile 1 75/140 as written in Chilton's....I mention this (not to mention my dumb move), but when I pulled the cover off, all was sealed very well and it took a while to clean the cover...good luck

Thanks, 30 ft-lbs seems about right, that's plenty tight. I left it overnight w/o fluid after tightening the bolts finger tight plus half a turn or so. Seems good.

Well, except for MY dumb move - bought additive, the right fluid, all 2.0 quarts of it...not enough, LOL! Capacity says 4.5 pints so even if the 4 oz of additive counted, I'm short.

Guess I am used to smaller diffs on cars
