Default increased gas mileage

ok I am not a huge fan of adding additives to oil but I have been running synthetic oil since i bought the truck brand new in 2009. i drive mainly around town and get between 11 and 12 MPG. A friend of mine told me to add lucas oil stabilizer to my oil and see what happens. So I did and now i am running around 15 mpg. I am not sure if it just me driving better or if it is the lucas. let me know what kind of improvements you guys have.

I think synthetic is supposed to help you MPGs out since it makes the truck run a little smoother. I never tried that Lucas oil stabilizer I have walked by it many times and wondered if I should use it haha. From the sounds of it it is a good product.

I would think a 3MPG increase would be your driving, an additive that does that would be pretty impressive.

If you want to bring your MPGs up a bit buy a CAI and an exhaust, you will see an increase in MPgs

I have about 12MPG on average, but that is me driving crazy and sane at times hhaha

The best thing you can do to improve fuel mileage is a custom tune. The engine management module (ECM) controls the amount of fuel that gets consumed based on several sensors. Even if you reduce the restriction of the air intake, the pistons will only "suck" the volume of air required to fill the cylinders and the ECM will provide just the right amount of fuel based on that and the state of the burn (oxygen sensors)

The pressure density of that air will make the biggest difference. That is why engines run better with cooler air - more oxygen molecules to mix with the fuel.

Ok then, so the exhaust oxygen sensors are not matched when the truck is built and other sensors are calibrated to a nominal. The factory then programs a "safe" parameter for the air to fuel ratio and then applies this to the engine.

A tune will look at the sensors and the actual ratios and tweak for optimum mileage if that is what you are after. Dodge (and other manufactures) like to run a little rich to avoid "too lean" conditions.
