I always went in shallow to get that rolling start and shave a couple numbers of my ET. It cost me a bit on the R/T but I could still pull off a .05 on average which is ok for a footbrake car.

Thanks for the advice. I did mean "stalling" instead of staging. All the advice is good. For some reason everyone wants to run against me out of the guys going. We have a 2500hd with the 6.6 and Bully Dog Programmer, an F150 with the 5.4 Triton and a Edge Evolution Prgrammer/CAI/aftermarket exhaust, and the Z28 I mentioned in an earlier post. We will see. I am not real worried about winning(even though I want to) I am more anxious to see what the ol' Hemi can do. My programmer will be here today or tomorrow and I plan on loading the 93 Octane tune in it as soon as I get it. Other than that I installed my 57 series K&N CAI last night and all I can say is wow... I really didn't expect to notice that much of a difference, but besides the volume increase I can feel the improvement too. I have one other question too. My tranny is stock. So should I run it with overdrive on or off, or in tow haul to increase the RPM's between shifts. Chefred I see you say you run in tow/haul sometimes. Do you have a stock tranny or some work done too it? Thanks again for all the advice. Hopefully tomorrow night will be fun and safe, and I won't break anything, lol.

Steve

hey Steve.. my tranny is stock and I do run down with tow/haul on...what i do is manually shift at 6k (with your programmer max out your rev limiter and shift points or you'll be bangin the limiter)

Agree with everything Freddie said except the water box part. Do drive around but don't back into it w/ street tires. It's only needed for a sticky drag tire to help it get started spinning to get some heat. Street tire you don't want to over heat the tire. Drive around the box, get straightened out, back up a little if you had to move too far forward but stay clear of the box. Brake tq just a bit to knock anything stuck to the tire off. With a treaded street tire you run the risk of whipping water up into the wheel well and having it drip back on to the tire when you're staging.

Have you been to the track before? If not, pay attention to what side the exit lane is on. NEVER turn across the other lane to the first exit unless the other car was so much quicker they already have. A lot of newbies don't pay attention to what's going on and you could very easily cross in front of someone. When doing test and tune and next to something that runs quite a bit faster, I usually don't worry about reaction time and let the other car launch. Give them a chance to get out in front of you in case they get loose and cross the center.

Other than that...be sure to post your results!! Let the truck cool down every few passes with the hood up to kill off some of the heat soak.

good call Sean..it's been years since I've run street tires and i was tryin to remember how I did it... and totally agree with Sean about exiting, the lane closest to the exit always has the right of way..
