You should be able to hook a test light to the brake terminal on the plug in and a good ground and the TBC should act is if trailer brakes are hooked to the circuit. When you activate the manual brake lever the test light should light up and the intensity should change with the settings and position of the manual lever.

That's a great idea Randy. We use a 4-pin harness hooked up to a set of submersible lamps that will activate when you hit the manual brake.

update: hooked up my trailer, and my TBC to my brother truck... everything worked fine

i just got a test light and what i did was test the left/right signals and 12v constant to make sure the test light worked, it did, connected to the electric brake terminal (as shown on the 7pin connectors door) and nothing happened.

im going to remove the dodge under-dashboard -> TBC wire harness and see if there is any faults in the harness itself. after that i am lost!

I have the same P3 controller on my 04 Ram 1500. I have had no problems with it so far.

The only thing I can think of is to go to the menu age and make sure that you select Electric Brakes rather than the Hydraulic option. If you select Hydraulic then the controller will not reconize the trailer.

Hope that helps.
