Gosh, you're stretching my remembery here, Hemi, but the dumbest thing I ever did that immediately comes to mind is I pulled the cap off one end of a U-joint when I was a kid fixing the "clunk" I had in the differential (almost said "rear end" but then thought of the fun ICOVERU and BLUEJET would have with that) to see how it worked--and I chased the little buggers all over the floor! Never did find 'em all and had to go get another set to finish changing them out.

well....the first set of plugs I ever changed by myself when I was 13 I took all the wires off and set them in the corner and changed all the plugs. Then, when I went to put them all back on, it hit me...they're in a specific order. DOH!
Somehow, though, I tried to follow the curves in them, and happened to get them right the first time...lol But, now, I always do them one at a time

Also...when I was attatching a chain on a motor for the engine crane to put it in the car, i dropped the bolt and it fell down right through the center of the oil galley into the blackness. After about an hour of searching with a magnet and coming up with nothing...dropped the pan. It wasn't there. Turned out, it fell down and landed right on the ledge where the oil pan bolts to...lol
That sucked though...all ready to put the motor in and, drop...tink tink, tink. "Explitives!!!"

losing nuts or lock washers into the carburetor is never a fun thing, pistons don't piss too good with excess hardware laying on them
you would not believe how many people don't cover their carbs with a rag or a piece of cardboard while working on their vehicles, i personally use a plastic lid with a hole drilled into the center, the hole fits nicely over the stud that holds the air filter on

Note to self: always fully close the sunroof before going through the carwash.

I'm still drying out the back of the limo!

I hear ya' on the plug wires strang3, crossed a couple myself the first time, though and while I liked the backfire sound, I was told I had to put it in the right place. Other than dropping various bolts here and there, thank goodness, no major mistakes. 'Course, I was always told that if after putting things back together, you find yourself with "extra parts," you did something wrong, lol!
