Default Hood insert

So I have decided that I want to paint my hood insert black rather than buying a new one. So I was wondering if anyone else has done this and if so what did you do to remove the chromes finish so that the new paint will stick?

Chromed plastic is tough.

Some have tried taking fine grit sandpaper and roughing it up so you have a surface that will accept paint.

Others will say strip the piece. Scale modelers use, of all things, Easy Off Oven Cleaner to remove the chrome from plastic. Others use the old whitewall cleaner "Bleech White" you find in auto parts stores.

I'm really not sure what works best but those are some suggestions.

I prefer the sandpaper myself as I've done it som a few pieces and I've had no issues with lifting at all. I use a 600 grit to breat it all up, then smooth out with a 820 grit wet/dry.
