Question Question for a V10 mechanic

Hi all,
I was wondering if someone that has taken apart a V10 can tell me if the cam gear is all metal.
Anyone know?
Thanks

If you're worrying about gear wear and chain stretch, put a socket on the bolt in the center of the crank and see how many degrees of freeboard you feel.. trust me, you'll know when you try to move the cam/valve train... if it's over 4 degrees, it's time for parts... Also, if the engine's top end seems stronger than before, it's because the cam is behind the crank thereby allowing the cylinders to fill for a longer period of time,

It only has 80K on it, I was wondering if I can expect to get past 125k without a cam drive swap.
If it has nylon on the cam gear, I won't trust it past that.

I honestly don't know however if it's the same chain assembly they use on the V-8's, she's under another 20% of continual load dragging two more cylinders worth of parts around... my guess it would be a good idea... but before you do it, see how many degrees of free crank movement you have... and go from there.

Late response. Sorry.
The Dodge V10 has all steel gears and chain. It is not a roller chain. Cam gear has large lobe for cam position sensor. I have 110,000 on mine and it has wear and is limp but not loose. I run Mobil 1 and it is lightly bronze color in timing cover. I did have spalling on top of cam lobes and the cam bearings were trashed. One came out with cam. I am changing cam lifters bearings and timing set. Cloyes makes a timing set. Rockauto.com has them.

Should be able to get over 100,000 on it without a problem .

Thanks for the info. I believe that if the truck gets synthetic oil every 3000 miles and I keep up on all the maintenance it should go for a long time but if it had that stupid nylon covered timing gear like the '60s V8s, I would be opening it up to put an all metal one in it just for fun.
Glad to hear it is all metal!
Thanks again

Was wondering that myself. I've got 132k and still going strong. Running full synthetic changed every 4k. Guess I'll find out when the time comes.
