Tell them that it has a cool muffler and shiny exhaust tip too.

I have to agree with them to an extent. I wish they had bumped the horsepower up and offered a Viper T-56. However, $1380 for the SS/T package was really a good deal for what you got. How many other special editions were that cheap?

I hope you're right. I just don't think it will be the case. In 1978 and 1979, the Little Red Express didn't have any competition. It was also as fast as a Corvette and Trans Am. The SS/T had the Lightning and 454 SS to compete against as well as the Indy Ram. Supercharged Lightnings were out the next year (1999) and the Viper powered Ram (SRT-10) came later. I think the 1996 Indy Ram will be the only 1990's Dodge pickup to have any collector status based solely on the Indianapolis 500 connection.
Well, the Lil Red was the fastest production vehicle in the years it was made, so, that does make them more special. But, ours are limited production, whereas the little red was not, it was just how many units sold. And, ours is more like the Warlock, actually. Which is worth pretty good money nowadays. I've seen minorly rusty Warlocks go for 10k. And all they were was a sticker package, nothing else special.

But...the 454 SS's were slow bone stock, and the Lightnings at first weren't even that good looking until they made the newer bodystyle.
Also, ours are basically the same as a Pace Truck. Neither were numbered and both were about the same amount of units produced.

I also wish Dodge would've done a few more things. Like you said, offered a 5/6 speed, supercharged them, numbered them, or even offered a special interior package. But...still, our trucks are special. As much as a GLH Omni or something like that, which are really going up in value, and honestly, its an Omni...lol

So...ours have potential. But, only time will tell.

Until then, any mod I make, I'll keep the original stuff, just in case.

Good call on keeping the original stuff. That bastard owner before me changed out the wheels... That honestly pisses me off to not have them. Can't complain though, my tires grip pretty damn good.

haha...I have about 3 sets extra

But, yours look good. Ought to try and find the previous owner and ask him if he knows what happened to them. Probably sitting in the corner of his garage.

You may be onto something. If a Warlock is worth some money, then the SS/T could be too. I don't know the exact production numbers of LRT's, but I think their 2 year run is roughly equal to the SS/T. Was the SS/T meant to be limited production model? Judging by the numbers built both years, it doesn't appear so.

I remember 318 Dakotas could clean a 454 SS's clock. They were widely ridiculed for being slow, but it is showing signs of being highly sought after later on. Being a Chevy and having the 454 logo on the sides makes them a tad more collectible. Personally, I think the 1st gen. Lightnings look tons better than the 2nd gens. The supercharger will make the 2nd gens worth far more. I think the fact that the SS/T is basically the same as the Indy Ram is a strike against it. It also hurts the values of the Indy Ram. They really should have upped the power, changed the wheels, etc. to make the SS/T different.

I can't believe what folks are wanting for rust free non GLH Omnis. There are going to be a ton of GLH clones.

I'm doing the same. I've kept all the suspension parts and even the original battery. I'm hoping you are going to be right and I'm dead wrong.

That is still a cool looking truck, and you always do take great pics! Can't wait to see the finished product!

I read somewhere that the SS/Ts were limited to a possible of 5000 units per year, however, the demand wasn't there. But, what actually limited the production was the wheels. The wheels were produced by a smaller private company that could only make about 20000 wheels a year...lol Kinda cool.

Yes, the 454 SS's weren't very quick, stock. Now, with some modding they could be, but, then again, so can ours
But, the Indy Ram may or may not hurt the value of the SS/Ts. Really, the SS/T is just a continuation of the Indy Rams. So, basically, there was just a 3 year run with exterior changes.
I would think our 98s would be worth more than the 97s anyway, since ours have the newer style interior.

It is quite crazy. Who woulda thought an Omni/Horizon would ever be worth anything...lol

I've kept everything as well. Not the battery, but, then again, I never had it...lol But, I kept the stock airbox, ash tray, cup holder (I put a console in ) and all that stuff, as I said, just in case.

But, I'm hoping your wrong as well...haha. But, then again, it doesn't really matter to me. I like my truck and am planning on keeping it a long time. However, if someone came to me with a nice big check or a trade for a 6spd SRT-10.....then a I may reconsider

Thanks for the compliments. I try with the pictures

But, I just helped clean out the shop it'll be painted in, today. Looking like the middle/end of next week is when it'll all be going down.
