I have the Hemi in it and I am not impressed. This is my 6th Ram and the last two have almost put me off Dodge .
I had 3 of the 5.9's in 2500 before and they were GREAT . I bought a new 2007 with the 6.7 motor and had nothing but trouble . I let the dealer talk me in to a 2009 Hemi . It has a lot of go but no power and the mileage is worse that the gulf oil spill.

What I would like to do is put a 5.9 into my 2009 hemi.
Question : Can it be done , will it work , and How do I go about it.
Comparing gas and diesel engines is hardly fair. Of course a gas engine won't have comparable torque in the lower RPM range you're used to with the 5.9. Can I ask how you used the truck with the 6.7 CTD? As for putting a 5.9 in the 1500 chassis, I'm sure it could be done but I seriously doubt it would be cost effective and you may never get the truck to ride or handle like it should.

I am only using the 1500 for light towing mostly but do pull a boat and horse trailer at times.
The Hemi is quick and better than the old one, I had a 2002 , but they still can't pull there weight in paper sacks.
I pulled my horse trailer from Portland , Or to the coast and the MPG was only 8 . Around town I get 13.5 average and 14-15 hwy.

With my 5.9 on the hwy I was getting 23-25 MPG in a 2500.
When I bought a 2007 2500 with the new 6.7 I only got 10-12 MPG when it would run.

I like my 1500 but not the motor . That's my problem .

Thanks to everyone for the help ,we will see how the story ends.

Bob
