They have plastic clips molded to the back side of them. I THINK you can pinch them closed and pop them off. Look under the rail n a bout (4) places for the plastic nubs protruding through.

My covers keep warping and the corners pull up. I'm on my second set (under warranty) but I'd rather be done with them and have the spray-on bed liner come over the sides. The problem is the bed rail has an indentation to fit the black cover the looks terrible by itself and the (4) square holes look unfinished without the cover as well.

I have thought that they should make metal caps that fit where the plastic caps are

on the older generation Rams, i have seen diamond plate caps that cover the holes & indentations, the metal caps could be shot with Line_X or powder coated to any color choice & then you could easily mount just about anything on top of the bed rails

I just did a web search, it reads that they do have metal bed caps for '09 Ram
this is what i came up with

Dee Zee Brite-Tread Side Bed Caps & there are other companies that make them also

Good thought! I'd go for that even though I'd have to re-drill all the mounting holes for my after-market tie-downs!
