Those new tail lights seem to always be a bear the first time to remove. Had similar issues on dodge cars as well.

Yep, pull straight back.thers litlle barbs on the locating pins, there just press fit. be careful, some models you have pivot the lens away from the truck(approx 25-30 degrees) then pull straight from there. But you should be able to see which one you have...Goodluck.
