Default Exhaust consideration

I am considering putting on an exhaust on my truck....i spoke with a reliable exhaust man i have gone too before and he told me that Dodge has done a really good job of minimizing the noise of their engine but at the cost of a really restricted exhaust system...wondering if anyone can concur??? I was hoping to improve the exhaust for MPG reasons...any other tricks i can do to improve my 11.75 MPG ???

I had good luck with the cat back system I installed on mine a Flowmaster system.
You will get gains (power & MPG) with any reputable cat back system.
They are usually not to expensive and can be installed pretty easily in your garage or driveway.

A good tune up, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, plus a good quality air filter like K&N will help. But don't expect miracles these 5.9's aren't noted for gas mileage.

I agree..the stock systems are restrictive. It does reduce noise but at the expense of efficiency. Try a CAI and exhaust system. These additions will improve engine efficiency by removing those restrictions at both ends of the engine airflow.

i have to agree with ram98 and maddog 360's are gas hogs and i wouldn't expect a bunch of gas milage change but you may get a couple mpg's and by the way that is what mine gets on a good day with mods

The 360 might be a gas hog but it's a good, good engine!

11.75 is more than what I get. So adding a decent cat-back should be good.

I agree with Maddog, the 5.9 may be bad on gas but it will a lot of abuse!

My dad has the 5.9 in his 02 Ram QC and he has pretty much beat the F**k out of the truck since he got it and hauls a huge pontoon boat (can't remember how many feet it is) but it makes his truck look small! Has close to 90k mi and still has the original motor but had to have the trans replaced at about 80k which I think is pretty good considering how he drives it.

Thanks for the advice i just might invest...i also had another question... i took the truck in a while back cause it seemed like the rpms were jumping on cruise or constant speeds...so i had a shop look at it...they reset the brain and said it was ok (injectors, tranny)...i did a lil more research and found that the TPS is a common problem...so i switch it out...it appears it has stopped the random RPM jumps however i still feel like the truck doesnt shift super great...i feel like it runs the gears out too long (especially in the first couple gears almost like i'm towing something) then shifts...i am planning on doing a big tune up soon cause its got 93xxx miles...any suggestions other than the tune up and TPS replacement???
