Default Transmission will not shift

Ok here is the problem. Yesterday went to the store shifted fine, went to house picked up trash then stopped to get some from another place and truck would not shift. No warning, never had an issue till now.
What happens is the truck will rev to about 3000 at 20-30 mph, if you accelerate slowly it will rev like in neutral, but if you floor it you will speed up.

I change fluid and filter, new transmission control output sensor but no change.

No check engine light or anything just will not shift. You can shift ok between reverse neutral and drive just wont up shift.

Auto parts store mentioned a transmission control solenoid could this cause this problem? Or am I looking at a new tranny?

Check the TCM for codes first. Not all codes will illuminate the MIL.

With a scan tool. The TCM is where any trans codes will be stored. Is the trans in limp-in mode (operating only in second gear)?

As far as I can tell I believe it is in second. If I manually put it in low 1 it will down shift.

Is there a specific code reader for the TCM?

I will see what codes I get this weekend. Truck is over at the other house.

Another thing I forgot if I accelerate hard I could get it to go into 3rd, but under normal acceleration will not shift. Only tried this once and only very short distance not sure if it might cause more damage .

So Limp mode is what the truck will do if it sees something wrong. It doesn't mean the transmission is shot. Well may not be shot. I hope.

I had this problem with a car. Found out it was a solenoid that was stuck opened. Replaced it for 25 bucks I think, and it was fine.

I am hoping that is all it is. Seems it is located inside the transmission we guess I will get to drop the pan again but if that is all it is I will be glad to do it.

Hopefully the code will tell this is it.

Default Code reader showed no codes

Well I pulled the codes last night and the only code I got was the one for the EVAP Leak.

So the transmission seems to be in "Limp mode" Is there a specific code reader that pulls codes from the TCM?
