Smile trailer brake controller

I need some help...I bought a 2010 Ram 1500. It has the Calss IV hitch receiver. I have got a 30 ft. camper I am pulling with this. I have been told I do not need an electric brake controller for the camper. I only need to engage the tow/haul mode and I should be fine. Is this true? I sure would like to be sure I have brakes on my camper before I hit the road.
Thanks!!

I am No pro but I do know engaging tow haul will not engage your trailer brakes you need a brake controller to conrol trailer brakes if they are equipped on the trailer .

Ok, with a 30ft trailer, you NEED trailer brakes, and tow/haul does NOT engage them, it only controls the motor and it's shift points. You do need a brake controller to activate the trailer brakes or it'll be pushing you around when you go to slow down/stop. There are several aftermarket ones that are good, but I don't know any off hand since my hauling truck is a SuperDuty with a built in unit.

That is really ignorant of the dealership. State law determines if you need trailer brakes, not anyone's preference. Some states require for as low as 1500lb. Here in IL it is any trailer over 3000lb.
