Default Round TWO Cortex MPG test

Follow up to round 1.

2009 RCSB. 5.7 w/3.92 OEM 20" tires/wheels

Bone stock except for Mufflex 24" SISO muffler and SC 3950 Cortex programmer. Using "87 octane" canned program. 87 octane fuel.

9,700 miles on odo. (NOW USING Mobil1 5/20 synthetic, prior test on dino oil)

Truck also has soft tonneau cover.

IH-10 from Houston to Columbus

All numbers are EVIC. EVIC reset at highway speeds before all tests. Test length varries from 15 miles to >15. (EVIC would usually stabilize in <10 miles),

1. Depart Houston westbound on IH-10 @ 7 am for Columbus. No wind. No A/C. Flat highway. Cruise at 65 mph. 22.2 to 22.4 MPG (20.8 to 20.9 mpg obtained previously with same test/conditions with "XS Mileage' tune and Dino Oil)

2. Same speed (65 w/CC), turned on A/C, starting to get into slight slight elevation changes,,, 21.3 MPG. { No MDS engagement }

3. Same speed (65 w/CC), with A/C. Elevation changes getting more pronounced,,, enough that MDS engages on some downslopes. 21.6 MPG.

Temps for all 3 tests between 78 and 82

Return trip was on a different road (290) 90 degrees, w/AC, cruise at 70, 18.7MPG, 'same' results as similar test (on different road) in Round One.

Conclusion.

The synthetic is probably helping in a small way,,,, (Not hurting anything,) 'Common' MPG increases from using synth. engine oil = approx ~2%~

The 87 tune with the MO1 oil seems to have increased the MPG at speeds of 65 MPH when tested on the exact same road (IH-10),

Hard to compare the 70 mph test performed today with any prior test as the roads were different.

The '87' tune is more responsive when power is needed below the 3,000 - 3,500 rpm mark. Prior to the 87 tune, there was a distinct 'coming on' of the power at ~3,000-3,500~ rpm. With the 87 tune, the motor seems to pull a bit harder below that threshold, and once you cross over that threshold, the difference you feel is not quite so 'pronounced',,, I do not feel like there has been any power lost, just feels like it 'comes on' a bit more than it did before at the lower rpms and transitions quite nicely into the upper rpms,,, Not so 'peaky', so to speak,,,.

Not sure if the Mileage XS tune is an 'all around' economy tune made for city and Hwy driving, or what, but, at least in this round of testing, the 87 tune (with MO 1) seemed to show better mileage results over the same road/conditions at 65 with the A/C off.

As it stands right now, I prefer the 87 tune to the XS Mileage tune for both perceived HWY economy and all around drivability.

I have not tried the Tow, 91, or 93 tunes, however a trip for work to Louisiana is upcoming.

As always, your mileage may vary!

"Fuel Saver" light in EVIC come on when in MDS mode. You 'can' hear it, but it's tough/virtually impossible to hear it engage with my 'quiet' exhaust at highway speeds.

FWIW, here's the link to 'Round ONE' testing with the 'Mileage XS' tune:

Just loaded the 91 tune for next weeks trip,,,,

More pep? Yep! But, just from the 'preliminary EVIC data' gathered so far, I'm skeptical that there will be much, if any, improvement in MPG over the 87 tune.

From a MPG standpoint, the fuel is 10% more expensive, so anything less than a 10% improvement in MPG will be 'going backwards'

Seriously doubting I'll see 24+ mpg next week on the freeway

Will post findings
