actually, the complete opposite.

If you upgrade the front sway bar without installing a rear one, you will increase understeer. Installing a rear sway bar will increase oversteer, making it more neutral. Installing only a rear sway bar and removing the front one can make the truck slide out from under you very very easily.
You actually want more oversteer, as long as you can handle it anyway. But, too much can be dangerous.

But, all of our trucks in all years have a front sway bar. They'd be scary without one.

As far as I know, though, rear sway bars only came on 2500 HD trucks.

I got a rear sway bar for mine off of a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 HD. I would imagine it would be the same for the newer generations.

But, it did make a big difference. She stays a lot flatter in the corner's and doesn't squat as much when really putting the pedal down.

Majic,

Does the rear sway control the jumping these Dodges do on expansion joints in a turn or other road bumps? I need to isolate shocks vs sway bar to get the most effect first.

Can you better explain this? I don't really understand what jumping your speaking of.

I installed a Hellwig sway bar on the rear and it made a big improvement going over rough roads and RR tracks.

I had a hellwig, first mod I ever did, but then it interfered with my exhaust, so eventually I'm going to do the Hotchkis.

Thanks all. Good to know about the Hotchkis vs Hellwig.

WHAT I HAVE DONE SO FAR

I replaced the shocks (116K miles) with Rancho 5000s. Made a SUPREME difference in not bounding up and over as I crossed a bump in a turn, etc.

I checked front sway bar for play/looseness. No issues. Thought the tie rod may be contributing so had new tires placed on the front with an alignment. No word back from mechanic that alignment parts were needed.

Rides sweet now. Still considering rear sway.

After rotors got turned and front pads replaced, I am ready for a run from VA to IL to drag my RV travel trailer to the East Coast. Hate having the RV without using it.
