Default I'm at a loss

I am totally lost on what could be wrong with this truck. We have a 1999 Ram 4x4 1500 with a 5.9L V.8. We recently acquired it in a trade. The guy we got it from said all was wrong with is was the gas gauge didn't work. Theres actually more. The gas gauge doesn't work, it stays on E most of the time, with the fuel light on. It has a full tank of gas. We'll get it started and it will die. Be driving down the road and it will die. Replaced the fuel pump/filter/sending unit and it didn't fix it. Replaced the IAC valve, it didn't fix it. Now it idles so fast that the headers glow orange-red. Sometimes the gas gauge will come on and work, but most of the time it doesnt. Also sometimes we'll get a "no bus" reading on the odometer. Replaced the battery and terminals, no change.

Also hooked up a code reader and it throws the "p0505" which means that the IAC control module is messed up. we have tried three different ones, all with the same results.

We are at such a loss on this truck, we have absolutely NO idea how to fix it. Any ideas are more than welcome.

First welcome to the forum. Second this is just a guess but sounds like the cat might be plugged due to the glowing headers. On the gas gauge check for a bad ground, especially the chassis to frame ground which is located from underneath on the passenger side between the cab and box. Hopefully this helps.

IAC control module? No such animal unless you're referring to the PCM. A no bus message means the cluster isn't communicating properly on the data bus. I'd check for more than a bad ground on the fuel gauge. Check the connector at the top of the tank for looseness, corrosion or spread pins that may not be making contact.
