Default rear axle questions

has anyone put a rear axle from a 5spd trans ram 1500 into a ram 1500 with an auto trans ? ive heard that if done the axle will run out of gears and top out with barely highway speeds. yet ive also heard that it would be alright and that it would just run higher rpms and no overdrive... what do?

Someone is filling you full of BS. What you're referring to is the ratio of the ring and pinion gears and not the actual axle itself. In order for a gear to limit you that severly on highway speed, you'd have to be running something like a 4.56:1 or higher on a fairly small tire. You can stick with any stock ratio and not have this problem. If you want to know what you currently have, look for a small tag bolted to the rear diff cover with a number like 3.5, 3.9 or somthing similar on it.

Is the ring and pinon ratio the same or did you go from a 3.55 to a 3.92?

Also does the ratio match your front diff? How do you determine if you are going 93 or 97 in a ram anyway?

@remerson i am unsure, after i got it in there i was sick of messing with it... i think it might be 3.92? ehtier way i had to trade out my broken posi for a non-posi and i am dissappoint...

@eriautopart its a 2wd so no front diff, and by not exceeding the speed limit on the local highway and watching the speedometer at odd hours of the morning.....
