Default prepare for winter!

both my '95 and '97 rams with the 5.9 gas are really weak in the heating dept. Warm air is about all I can hope for...and when it's 20 degrees or colder outside, longer trips are not very nice at all.
The heater hoses seem to be running very hot, so it is getting ample hot water.
My guess would be either: The air mix door isn't going completly shut, because of an obstruction, (penny, pen, lego man etc...)
or heater core is plugged (internally or externally).
This would be my first try at this generation truck HVAC... How deep does the dismantling go to get to the heater core/air box?
Should I have started working on this last month?
Fixing the heater now seems like the last thing I need to do, but It won't be long now before it's gonna be needed!
Thanks!
Bob

Heater core is the most likely suspect. First thing I would try is backflushing the system and after the flushing, pull the heater hoses loose and blowing compressed air through the core. Just don't get too crazy with the air pressure.

sounds good to me....I will try to restrain from using 'full line pressure'!
