BJ,
First, stick your head under the dashboard with a flashlight and confirm you have the two necessary plugs. They will be either hanging off of the main wiring harness or, in some cases, taped up next to it.
I didn't do that vital first step and ended up driving myself crazy trying to figure out where I screwed up.

Thanks, wobly
I did check for connectors - both were there, so I shopped around and found a local parts store that had both controller and bezel in stock.
I got it and installed it yesterday.
This is what is happening when no trailer connected:
The controller lights up for a second or so, when I turn the ignition key, then it turns off.
As soon as I press adjusting buttons (+ or -) it lights up again for a while and turns off again.

I'm assuming that this is all correct, but I haven't tried to tow anything yet.
Can someone with installed, working controller can confirm this?
Thanks,
BJ

Also, I need to find someone to flash the truck software, so I can see it in EVIC.

Default Problems with brake controller on 2010 dodge ram

Just bought a 2010 Dodge Ram 4x4. Couldn't find a truck with the integrated brake controller and so wanted the dealership to install one. They told me of some recent issues with the brake controller and advised me to hold off on purchasing one until the "issues" were resolved.

Has anyone else heard of these "issues" as I can't seem to find any information on what they may be?

Kevin

That's what they told me too. Apparently there was some (out of control ???!) mix-up with harnesses for this model. And some trucks left the factory without the two required connectors needed to install the brake controller. I believe there was also some kind of "HOLD" put on these parts until they figure out how to deal with it.
Based on the information in this and some other threads, you just need make sure that you have these connectors. If so, you should be able to install the integrated controller.

Yep, that's what it's supposed to do.

Thanks Hotfingrs,
I guess I'm ready to test it with a real thing now.

Quic update,
While doing the first oil change, I had the computer flashed to make sure I can see the Brake controller option in EVIC.
The flash was done by the local dealer - NO CHARGE!!!
Can't beat that. It all seems to work fine, I can see the trailer image in the EVIC.

1'st time poster
yesterday I went to the dealership to have my 08 RAM 3500 Diesel looked at for possible "U" joint problem and left with a new 2011 RAM 1500 Quad Hemi. The truck was set up to tow, WITHOUT the factory controller. My question is can I buy a factory brake controller, install it and have it function as if it were factory installed. The parts guy only had info on the 2010 controller and he told me, at least for 2010, that the factory controller will only function properly if it were factory installed but they should be coming out with kits by early fall, which is now, for the 2011. Anyone have any info on the 2011's yet? Thank you in advance

I asked about this for my 10 just the other day at the dealer and they are going to have a kit that you will be able to install yourself quite easily and it will be for the 09 and 10. It will be out this fall he said. They had just gotten a bulletin on it
I don't know about the 11s yet I didn't think to ask. But I would be willing to bet that the 11 will have the same setup and the kit will probably work for t as well

Default 2011 RAM brake controller

from the looks of an earlier post, of a 2010 controller, even if you get the factory controller and hook it up to the supplied connectors, it looks like the truck has to go back to the dealer for a re-flash so the EVIC see the controller and allows for proper operation
