I had a 03 4.7 that had valve train clackity clack from brand new at start up. The dealer told me normal to that motor. I drove it to 150,000 miles and never had a problem with it. My new 2010 with the 4.7 has the same start up noises. Dont know if this helps but I think its fairly common with Dodge.

In 5,000 miles my truck has done this 4-5 times also. Same situation as others, 2 seconds of clatter that smooths out once the oil pressure builds. To me it sounds like a hydraulic lifter that lost it's oil prime. I'm not going to sweat it as it seams to be a fairly common occurance across the hemi line.

I have the same problem sometimes and I just changed my oil and replaced the oil filter with a K&N filter with the anti drain back valve, didn't help.

I've had this with every chrysler/dodge product I've owned EXCEPT this Hemi. I thought it was a normal thing.

I took it to the dealer and he said it was a Hemi trait and not to worry. I won't as long as it is covered under the warr. if it gets worse.
