Default Green air filter

I recently installed a vararam intake that I bought slightly used and it came with a Green brand air filter as well as the Green cleaning kit. It`s the same as a K&N only different color oil. It says not to use any other brand of oil as it will discolor the filter.I figure if I use a K&N cleaning kit it will just change the color from green to red. Are they just saying not to use other oil in order to sell more of theirs or is there actually a good reason for it. I don`t see the point of ordering the Green stuff over the internet when I can drive for 5 minutes and buy the K&N one at a store. Has anyone used this stuff? Is it just the same thing in a different color?

Green + Red = Blue,,,, Mopar Blue????

Of course any other oil but green oil will 'dis-color' the filter,,,

The 'issue' here is how could a filter of any other color but Green be instantly recognized as a "Green Filters" product?

More marketing going on here than any difference in the tack oil, as far as I'm concerned.

That`s what I figure but I wanted to make sure. It even says on the package that other manufacturers use different oils. The filter isn`t any different than a K&N. I just didn`t want to throw out the K&N cleaning kit I have left over from my last car.

ok, so I cleaned and re oiled the filter and the oil I`ve got is clear but the filter itself has a bit of green in it, more of an off white. I`d rather use the K&N kit so at least I can tell by color when the filter needs to be oiled.
