Default Miss-fire code

I'm just posting this again in the more specific area.........sorry newbie. Thanks.
Hi everyone looks like a great site. Have a question right off the hop. I'm having an issue with my 05 Ram 1500. It's the 4.7.
Basically I'm getting a check engine light. Diagnostics said miss-fire cylinder eight. Changed the plugs out and code cleared. Came back a week later same diagnostic info. Changed the ignition coil yesterday, cleared the code went for a cruise all was fine. Today the light is back on and the diagnostic is still saying miss-fire 8th cylinder. Would appreciate any input, thanks.

i agree with fixit you probably need to do a compression test on that cylinder just to make sure your not dealing with anything major so you can rule out it being a head gasket hope you find out whats wrong!

Actually I got the system flushed, noticed a gurgling sound on the passenger side of the cab. Read how these motors are bad for filling and have a tendency to air lock. Was pretty low in the overflow container and had read some other members post about starting it up taking the cap off waiting for the thermostat to kick in and adding anti-freeze as well as squeezing the upper rad hose. Doing this I was able to get a jug and a quarter in. Since then the overflow jug has maintained the same level. Pretty concerned though cause today the code has changed from a P0308 to a P0300 (non-specific cylinder miss-fire) but more importantly noticing a fair bit of white exhaust. For about 3 blocks then it disappears not sure if the cat is keeping it from going longer, or I'm leaking into a cylinder, or gallery when she sits and burning it off. What's weird is it does not smell like anti-freeze at all but my instincts think it's a head gasket. I'm the only owner, oil change every 5-6 K. 170,000 k on it. Guess )(%^ happens.

Almost totally guarentee your head gasket is shot and most likely because of the overheating your head is warped. Best way to check is have your local shop pressurize the cooling system and pull the plug on the effected cylinder and check for leaking. Your white cloud of exhaust is pretty much a guarentee that you need to change head gaskets and the head as well. Best thing to do is both sides when you get it done.
