Default Low Speed Knock... please help!!

My in-laws were driving home one day and the truck ('99 1500 4x4 9.25) started making a low speed knock. Towed it home, lifted the rear, let it idle in drive; we heard and could feel the knock in the rear diff(so we thought) Toar the diff apart and found busted thrust washers. Got a new clutch pack and installed it. (Getting the spider gears in was very hard, ie extremely tight) The pinion, ring, side, and spider gears look great. I got a good carrier preload and the backlash is set at .007. No side to side play in the axles. We have already checked the ujoints, no problem there. Put the right oil in and the friction modifier. First time out of the driveway the truck made the same low speed knock while speeding up, not so much while slowing down. Pulled the cover back off the diff. The clutches look fine and in the correct position.
There is a little bit of play in the transfer case if I turn the driveline back and forth while pulled off the diff, not play in the ujoints.
I also drove it slow down the road with the rear driveline out (bad bad) I heard mild ticking possibly from the transfer case.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I'd get the truck up in the air, on jackstands and blocks to support it.

Then I'd get underneath (watch for rotating elements) and move from back to front to track down the knock.

It could be the transfer case but it seems strange that you had found busted thrust washers, replaced them and still have the knock.

When you rotated the driveline back and forth did you hear the knock then?

A mild ticking could be a bearing or something close to the driveline. Also, check any heatshields to make sure they clear the body and the part they are shielding.
