Default Garmin GPS

We are going to buy a GPS, and don't know anything about them. I want a Garmin, because I've had Garmin on our boat, and like them. On the dash of the 2010 Ram, next to the windshield, is a disk, right in the middle of the dash. Is this something to do with the factory installed GPS, and can I ues this for a Garmin? Thanks Doug

Has nothing to do with the factory installed GPS. Factory GPS is installed as part of the radio and it uses the radio screen.

Not sure what disk you're talking about though.

I have a Garmin Nuvi that I've hard wired into my truck and it's a good system overall.

I think Garmin is a good choice. Great user interface and easy to read.

What "disk" in the dash are you referring to?

This is the one I have, love it. I bought mine refurb from Tiger as well, been going strong for 2 years. My favorite thing is the screen size...

I believe you are referring to the bubble looking thing on your dash, in the center, on the right side of the speaker there, tight against the windshield.

If its in that location, you will find that its an ambient light sensor & possibly has something to do with a windshield wiper function, to be sure, turn on your key, look at your headlights, they should be off, now take a piece of cloth or something like a piece of cardboard, set it on that bubble, check your headlights again, your lights should now be on.
Canadians are suppose to have DRLs 24/7, US vehicles don't come with them, but, in my business it is highly recommended that we run with headlights on & Chrysler could not or would not help me, & I had recieved a moving violation for not having headlights or DRLs on in a California Headlights Zone.
I covered the dome & now i have headlights as soon as my ignition is on, no more tickets & i am in compliance with my best business recommendations

I have used Garmins for about 10 years. Most, like all others I have seen, have a problem seeing them in bright sun light. I new have been using a Garmin 7500 for the past 4 years. It has a 7" screen and has always been easy to see. It will except a backup camera and an outside antenna. Life time map updates are a big plus. The 7200 is good too but no b/u camera. I have pre-programed a 9000mi trip with all the way points and was never lost. It has a good trip computer. Pricey, but good.
