When I debadge, I use dental floss, hair dryer to heat the glue and 3M adhesive remover. Takes about an hour but also depends on what and how much you are debadging.

The older the vehicle is, folks will find more tape will stick to the body and it takes a bit more work to clean it up. When I did my '99, getting the stock molding off wasn't hard, but a lot of residue was left over and that took some time. It's just the nature of the beast.

I found a cool tool...an eraser wheel that goes on a drill or other power tool that really can make short work of that chore. Wish I had found it earlier!!!
True. Since your truck is a second gen (tailgate molding bodystyle) it will take some more work and finesse. My truck took alot of love to get the tailgate lookin right (tape is really thick and heavy to keep that ugly thing on!).

This is a great thread, are there any pictures or updates on the OP? I really would like to do this to mine, too, and wanna see what the gen 2 looks like without that black plastic on the tailgate.

I think it would be cool to debadge and then rebadge with badges from a new Ram.

thanks, that does help. I really wanted to see the lines in the tailgate. I wonder how hard it would be to get my "dodge" and "4x4" decals off of that tailgate, too?

^^^ its not tough its just time consuming and finger irritating lol...i've done it before...i would recommend that you find that 3M buffer deal that everyone uses to take of the gunk afterwards...u might have to wet sand the area to have it match the rest of the tailgate since it hasnt seen sun or the elements...

yeah, I'm willing to bet money that I see a "ghost" of the letters and plastic when they are gone. Even though it has some of the best looking paint I've seen on a truck of its vintage, it isn't perfect!

I really wish my 6yr old was about 4 years older, I could get him to do those time intensive things for a handful of singles.
