Default Engine Swap

I was wondering if anyone had any experiance in dropping a carburated engine in their ram. I'm looking at a couple of 5.9 Magnum crates and I'm really leaning toward going carburated. I guess I'm just looking for the know how, like what fuel pump do I go with, what does dropping the ECU mean for my 46re etc. Any help is appreciated. Bill

I'm thinking you may need to swap to an RH series trans for a carb engine. The stock pump would need an aftermarket regulator that utilizes a return line to get the pressure down around 7 psi. If it were me, I'd stick with the EFI.

Default EFI Engine

Is there a good EFI crate that I can go with that is streetable? I guess all the crates I see are carburated.

If you buy a long block, it shouldn't make a difference but check with the manufacturer to be sure.

I have been doing a bit of research, the high performance crate engine sites RECOMMEND the carburetor, none of them say that you have to use it
one thing to remember they want to sell those engines & an engine that is on a dyno, usually do NOT have smog, water pump, & all those extra accessories that a street car has, so they get the big numbers, like 360 ci 300 hp. when carburated
I think IF that 2 of same engines had all the needed parts on it, the EFI powered engine would be the same or even give a bit better test results, IMHO

efi would net a little more power if tuned correctly...but, its biggest benefit is efficiency. You'll waste a lot less fuel with FI then with a carb.
