I start from day 1 getting home from the dealer and mostly wipe things down with a damp cloth. Any rubber gets a dressing much like the tires. Start early and often and its an easy job.

After reading your threads on the double gasketed filter, I'm surprised you believe anything a dealership mechanic says.

I've washed every engine I've had (all Dodge/Chrysler) almost every time I washed the vehicle.

Spray lightly with water

Spray with degreaser

Spray lightly with water

Spray with favorite dressing of your choice (I use whatever I used on the dash board) I'm using one of the non-glossy ones now. I like that fresh from the dealer look. It's a little hard to break my habit of looking for that glossy glassy shine though.

I simply use dish soap / hot water and a soft scrubbie. Once clean armor all on the plastic parts.

Rave Sports Water Toy 303 Protectant

you dont need to cover the altinator but if your that scared about it just get a plastic shopping bag like someone else mentioned and cover it but what i do if its realy dirty i spray it down with spray 9 and then hose it off and it comes clean and then i either wipe it all down or let it dry on its own and then use armor all

I like to spray my underhood with Simple Green, let sit a few minutes then rinse with clear water, wipe the whole area down as best you can, and it cleans up nicely, without lingering smells.... the simple green cuts any grease and oils, and is safe on the paint and plastics....just what works for me

I just did my truck and my wife car with simple green this weekend. I should take pictures to post while it's still clean.

You have to make sure to get back to it before it dries completely though otherwise it turns to a white chalky mess! It took me twice as long to get the residue off once I got back to the engine. Live and learn, I guess.
