I would like to see this tried. As per my original post, the fob should be able to start any truck it's programed too. The passive transponder should react the same way to every truck regardless of programing. The trucks just needs to be programs to accept the transponders code. There is no reason one key could not therefore be used to start multiple trucks if each truck was so programed.

I'm talking now about the key in ignition type of thing, not remote start or anything. Likewise I don't know about remote doors, windows, etc. These features are going to transmit on a particular frequency and perhaps there is a locking mechanism that once it is set it can't be unset.

I am basing all these suppositions on the idea that Chrysler is doing this the same way most vehichle manufaturers have been going things for about 10 years. It is of course also possible that they changed the mechanism with the gen 4's and none of this applies anymore.

I agree other wise they couldn't give you a new key if it were lost. They have to have a way to program the new key

In theory the key/fob can be used on multiple trucks. But those trucks ignitions would have to be programmed to that key/fob. This is where the problem would likely come up as the truck's system may not allow such programming.

... but how would the truck know if the fob had already been used on another truck?

I'm pretty sure there is a procedure for prgraming them yourself. Assuming you already have a working key (I know ford requires 2 workings keys for theirs). In this case there is no software required at all. It's one of those turn the ignition off and on three times, then hold your nose and honk the horn type deals. Maybe we need Randy to chime in here with some dealer type info.

I have a friend that has both a Ram and a 300. He asked the dealer to program his keys so that he would only have to carry one set. When they tried to program the second vehicle to the Fobic, apparently the programmer said it couldn't do that as the Fobic was already programmed to a vehicle.

I stand to be corrected, but it is my understanding that although the Fobic is passive, part of the programming procedure writes to (modifies) the Fobic, and I understand that this can only be done once. If this is the case, that would explain why it cannot be programmed to more than one vehicle, and why it can't be de-programmed then re-used on a different vehicle.
