Agree with the others. The rug is in the way but it kind of looks like the ball is mounted on the wrong side of the ball mount.

You could always drop the hitch and raise the truck

To All- thanks for the input. The trailer has a pintel receiver (7 ton eye) and can carry 9,500 lbs (the trailer weighs 2,500 lbs or so). The reciever is on the lowest setting on the trailer and the pintel that is partially covered with the rug is a combination pintel hitch with a lower ball so that it could be used as either a ball or pintel depending on what you are towing.

The pictures are not good- should have spent more time and the ground is not level. The trailer appears to be too high. As all have suggested, I need to lower the reciever height or raise the truck. It worked will on the Ford because the hitch was a little lower in relationship with the truck body and the tail gate was thinner. I had not thougtht about raising the truck- this may be a good excuse. The great thing about a deck over trailer is that trailer is 8.3 feet wide and you can put anything on it- just a really high trailer and not something that is normally done withe any 1/2 ton pickup (the trailer will not be loaded with more than 6,000 lbs- the trailer is normally used to transport Massey Ferguson 1035 tractor w/loader and 5' rotary cutter- weighs about 4K).

Thanks again

Default trailer

The trailer should be within 3-4 inches below or above the ball height. If it is too high it will lift the truck and if too low it will dive under this is when a hard stop. Been towing for 34 years. All of the towing tech's will tell you this

if you don't have the tailgate with the $20 helper spring that attaches to the truck bed & tailgate. (it makes the tailgate 80% lighter when opening & closing)
http://www.nationaltruckaccessories....p/easylift.htm
you can easily take off your tailgate & use a 5th wheel tailgate while towing
